The Jacksonville State softball team moved into its current home, University Field, in the Fall of 1995 and played its first game there on Feb. 15, 1996, a doubleheader sweep of Tennessee State.
Formerly the home of the Gamecocks' baseball team, University Field has been renovated to make it one of the more unique home softball facilities in the Southeast. A brick backstop and a covered batting cage were built prior to the 2003 season, and in 2004 a permanent outfield fence was constructed, finishing a transition that turned University Field for a baseball stadium to a softball-only facility.
With a seating capacity of 1,000, University Field can be one of the toughest places to play in the Ohio Valley Conference and was the host for the 2005 and 2008 OVC Championships.
The JSU softball team has recently moved its locker room into Kennamer Hall, the JSU Athletic Department's newest facility, which houses the weight room, all administrative offices and several coaches offices. The softball locker room features new lockers, a flat panel television and a shower facility for the team.
