JSU's Carstensen Earns Top OVC Smallbore Honor

MURRAY, Ky. –
Sophomore Brian Carstensen was selected the Ohio Valley Conference Smallbore Athlete of the Year for the second straight year announced on Sunday at the conclusion of the 2010 OVC Rifle Championships.

Carstensen along with teammate Andrea Dardas earned First-Team All-OVC Smallbore honors while Dardas was also named First-Team All-OVC in air rifle. Monica Fyfe was named to the All-OVC Smallbore and Air Rifle Second-Teams and to the All-OVC Newcomer squads both events.

The Gamecocks shot a 2308 to finish second in the air rifle and finished with a team total of 4577 to finish second overall and end the Gamecocks run of five straight OVC Rifle crowns.

Murray State captured the air rifle championship with 2322 points and the overall team title with 4595. Morehead State finished third in air rifle with 2268 points and its 4525 points placed the Eagles third overall. UT Martin Mixed (4533), UT Martin Women (4547) and Tennessee Tech (4446) rounded out the OVC field.

Jacksonville State will compete in the NCAA Sectionals next Saturday in Murray, Ky.
