Jacksonville State posted the highest finish ever by an Ohio Valley Conference member institution after ranking 101st nationally in the final Director’s Cup Standings, which ranks schools in their ability to reach the NCAA postseason across all sports.
It was the highest finish ever for an Ohio Valley Conference school, edging Middle Tennessee State in 1999-2000, when the Blue Raiders finished at 105.
A school’s points are derived solely from making the postseason in NCAA sports, the Gamecocks received 64 points after the softball team became the first school in OVC history to advance to the NCAA Super Regional, and the men’s tennis team earned 25 points after advancing to the NCAA Tournament.
The final standings were an all-time high for Jacksonville State, which came in at 201 last year. Jacksonville State’s previous high was a finish of 165 in the school’s first year in the Ohio Valley Conference in 2003-04.
