JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State Head Soccer Coach Julie Davis announced on Wednesday that Alex Rustad has signed to play soccer for the Gamecocks in 2009, becoming the 12th signee in this year’s class.

“We are delighted that Alex has decided to come to JSU,” said Head Coach Julie Davis. “She brings experience and playmaking ability to our central midfield. Alex has had a successful career at UALR. We feel that she will continue that success as a Gamecock. She is quick, athletic, good on the ball and a has potential to create goal scoring opportunities, which has shown in her assists record.”

Rustad transfers from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, where led the team with five assists and had 28 shots, 12 on goal, while playing in 21 games with 13 starts in 2008. She started all 27 games in 2007 for the Trojans, leading the team with seven assists, which ranked seventh in the Sun Belt Conference, and 45 shots, 19 on goal.

The Keller, Texas, native was a four-year Co-Captain for Keller Central High School, finishing her career with 40 goals and 38 assists that included 10 multi-goal games. She was named the Crowley Tournament Most Valuable Player and the District Newcomer of the Year as a freshman. Rustad was voted District Co-Offensive MVP and All-Region in 2006 and was a First-Team All-District selection and named the KCHS MVP in 2007. During her prep career, the Chargers made playoff appearances in 2005 and 2006, winning two Bi-District championships and two Area finalists finishes.

Rustad played two years of club soccer for Tejanos Soccer Club, helping the team to the 2005 Puma Cup and to the 2006 State Cup semifinals. She also played four years with the Texas Image soccer club and two years with the Texas Lightening soccer club.
