JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State placed three players in double figures en route to a 76-61 win over Miles College in an exhibition game on Tuesday at Pete Mathews Coliseum. .
Brittany Wiley led the Gamecocks with 19 points on six-of-nine shooting from the floor. Freshman Danielle Vaughn recorded a double-double in her JSU debut with 15 points and 10 rebounds while knocking down 10-of-13 free throws. Jolie Efezokhae added 11 points and pulled down eight rebounds to round out the double figure scorers for JSU.
The Gamecocks stretched a five point lead to 12 with an 8-1 run after a pair of Vaughn frree throws to give JSU a 27-15 lead with 7:45 left in the first half. Kelsey Johnikin hit a free throw with 25 seconds left to give JSU a 36-28 lead at halftime.
JSU used a 6-2 run to build a 14-point lead after a pair of Efezokhae free throws gave JSU a 63-49 lead at the 7:14 mark of the second half.
The Gamecocks went 33-of-40 from the free throw line, including going 10-of-12 over the final 4:13 of the game to pull away for the win.
Brandy Gillespie led Miles with 16 points and nine rebounds followed by Ashley Orphey with 13 point sand Cyntonia Jones with 12 points.
Jacksonville State plays its second and final exhibition game against Oglethorpe University at Pete Mathews Coliseum this Saturday at 7 p.m. The Gamecocks open the 2009-10 season at Samford University on Fri., Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. in Pete Hanna Arena.
